Verlena J Perry

Verlena Johnson Perry, 69, was born on February 1, 1949 to the late Lizzie and AJ Johnson in Ripley, MS. She departed this life on May 20, 2018 at her home.

She attended Line Street School and became a graduate in 1967. She worked at Foot Caress and Pep Industries in Ripley, MS. Also, she was a study hall teacher at RHS and a substitute teacher at Prather Head Start.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Thomas Perry on March 9, 1968 and to this union one child was born, Sharon. She was a member of Rockhill Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board and the Mother Board.

She leaves to cherish her memories:  one daughter, Sharon Perry of Tupelo, MS; special friends:  Shirley Welch, Elois Strong, Lorine Robinson, Willie Johnson, and the class of 1967; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Perry; her parents, Lizzie and AJ Johnson; and her sister Jewel Keenon.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 25, 2018 from 12 noon – 8 pm, with the family present from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm at Foster and Son Funeral Home in Ripley, MS.  Service will be held Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 11 am at Rockhill Missionary Baptist Church in Tiplersville, MS. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service.  Interment will follow at Rockhill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Tiplersville, MS.  Services entrusted to Foster and Son Funeral Home of Ripley, MS.
