Patsy Ann Cox Brooks, affectionately called “Mama Pat,” was born on October 11, 1942 in Ripley, MS to the late Frank Richard Cox and Laddie (Maxwell) Cox Johnson. Patsy confessed a love of Christ at an early age at Moses Chapel United Methodist Church in Ripley, MS. Patsy was employed at Biltrite Corporation for a number of years before health difficulties led to her retirement.
Patsy was devoted to her family. One of the ways this devotion was demonstrated was through her cooking. Family and friends praised her cooking and have many warm memories when speaking of her famous cornbread, pinto beans, neckbones and sauerkraut Sunday dinners.
Patsy was married to Bileto Brooks for over 20 years. While Patsy and Bileto were unable to maintain a marital relationship, they maintained a close friendship throughout the years as they raised their children. This relationship was evidenced by the weekly Sunday “hot plate” Bileto received. As a person devoted to her family, she was a strong disciplinarian who always managed to find humor in adverse situations. She was also a sports fanatic who loved the New York Giants until her boy “Dak” went to the Dallas Cowboys, then it would depend on who was playing that week. However, her all-time favorite sports figures were the Williams sisters.
Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Cox and Laddie Johnson, her daughter Opal Lubin DeJean, her son Randy Brooks, brothers Willie, Jimmy, and William Cox, sisters Leoper Jeans and Sheryl Mullins; one daughter in law Brenda Brooks. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Joseph Brooks, Robert Brooks, Charlene Brooks, Norlene Green, Christopher (Gloria) Brooks, Tracy (Cotina) Brooks, Stacy (Lanedra), Shelia Brooks and Jennifer Brooks. Her best friend and confidant Arquilla Thomas, twenty-one grandchildren and twenty great- grandchildren.
