Sunrise for John Thomas Spight began on April 16, 1937, in Tiplersville, Mississippi. He was the fifth child born to the late John and Melvinia Evans Spight. He was affectionally known as “JT”
to all who knew him.
He believed in helping others and had a big heart. He was loved by so many. He was married to the late Juana Spight. As a child, he was a member of New Mt.
Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, where he professed his faith in Christ as his personal savior.
He attended Allen White High School in Whiteville, Tennessee and Tennessee State University, in Nashville, Tennessee. J.T. relocated to Flint, Michigan and was employed as an engineer by General Motors Corporation. He retired from General Motors and moved back to his childhood home of Middleton, Tennessee. John Thomas Spight departed from this life peacefully in Tampa, Florida on July 31, 2023. He was proceeded in death by his brothers and sisters, Milton Spight, Aline Spight, Cora Spight Johnson, Medford Spight and Billy Joe Horton.
He leaves to cherish his memories two sons, Baxter (Pete) Henderson of Tampa, Florida and Michael Williams of Houston, Texas; four brothers-in-law and four sisters -in-law; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 8, 2023, from 10a-12p at Foster and Son Funeral Home in Ripley, MS. Service will be Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at 12p at New Mt, Pleasant Church in Middleton, TN. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Middleton City Cemetery in Middleton, TN.
