Mr. John Earl McDonald, age 77, was born May 19, 1946, to Henry and Mary Maxwell McDonald. He departed this life on September 17, 2023, at home surrounded by his family and friends.
At an early age, he joined Berea MB Church and remained there until his death. He attended Line Street Consolidated High School. He worked for Dan Elder Moving Services for more than 30 years. He later worked for Jan-Pro and Ashley's Furniture until his health failed. He coached softball for many years, which he loved, but Quartet singing was his passion. He first joined the singing group "The Pilgrim Aires" and then later became an original "Gospel Aires". Later on, he formed a singing group with is family "The McDonalds" He found a lasting love with his soulmate, Vera Nan Adams, which lasted over 50 years, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his children; daughters, Amy Rogan, Martha Hobson both of Ripley, MS., Rachel Irizarry (Thomas) of Tampa, FL, Lora Stricklin (Ken) and Williona Stricklin (Eric) of Blue Mountain, MS. Sons: Steven Adams of Ripley, MS and Micheal Adams of Blue Mountain, MS. Sisters; Margrette Braddock, Linda Faye McDonald and Ethel Burress all of Ripley, MS and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 21, 2023, from 12p-8p at Foster & Son Funeral Home, Ripley, MS with the family present from 6p-8p. Funeral service will be Friday, September 22, 2023, 2p at Bethlehem MBC, Falkner, MS. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service at the church. Interment will follow at White Oak Cemetary, Ripley, MS.
