On April 30, 1938, Wondrous Jimmie Dale Gibbs-Smithstarted her earthly journey in Tippah County Mississippi. She was the oldest child of The Late Gertie Sue Love-Lowery and The Late Marshall Gibbs. Surrounded by a few family members, on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at Tippah County Hospital in Ripley, Mississippi, her earthly journey ended.
She was an active member of Adkins Chapel United Methodist Church in Blue Mountain, Mississippi, where she serviced as President of P.P. R. (Pastor Parish Relationship), President of the Usher Board, and a member of the Kitchen Committee.
She was united in holy matrimony to The Late Ottawa Smith for 54 years. By her husband side, she became on of the first black female Gospel Announcers at WCSA & WTXI radio stations with a gospel segment called The True Vine Gospel Express. Before retiring, she was employed at Biltrite, also known as the Rubber Plant, for over 30 years.
She is survived by sons: Aubrey Smith, Lonnie Smith, Elder Patrick (Chiquita) Johnson, and Nicholas (Tyhonda) Smith; daughters: Sylvia Smith-Agnew, Connie Smith, and Veronica Smith; 34 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, May 19, 2023, from 12p-8p with the family present from 5p-7p at Foster & Son Funeral Home, Ripley, MS. Funeral service will be Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 11a at St, James COGIC in Ripley, MS. Interment will follow at Atkins Chapel Cemetery in Blue Mountain, MS.
