Hattie Irene (Bails) Cox, 89, of Ripley, Mississippi went home to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, January 15, 2022 in her residence. She was born February 1, 1932 in Ripley, MS, a daughter of the late Andrew Bails and Nodie Simmons Bails Cox.
She was affectionately known as “Moma Tuda” to those who knew and loved her. At a young age she joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church and later also attend Moses Chapel United Methodist Church, with her husband. Moma Tuda was well known in the community as a wonderful baker and cook. Everyone loved stopping by to enjoy a piece of her famous Pound Cake qnd pies. She also enjoyed sewing and making clothes and outfits for her family and many friend. She was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord, enjoyed going to church and strongly encouraged her family to live according to the Word of God.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, James A. (Sandra) Cox of Milwaukee, WI, Irene “Sis” (James) McDonald of Ripley, MS, Martella Cox, of Racine WI, Norma Jean (Loyce) Perry of Ripley, MS, Martha Rutherford of Ripley, MS and Benny R. Cox of Huber Heights, OH; grandchildren, Kandance (Reginald) Johnson, Travis Simmons, Timikie (Reginald) Johnson, James “Pete” (Tiffany) Story, special grandson, Jermaine (Jajuana) Story, Willie Story, Latoya Cox, Talona (Andrew) Snow, Veronica Wilkerson, Melissa (Rodrick) Gaines, Nina (Bradley) Boyd, Sabrina (Dennis) Storey, Selina (Billy) Braddock, Samantha Jackson, Brittni N. Cox and Alycia C. Cox, and a host of loving great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; aunt,Annette McDonald; sisters-in-laws, Grace Bails and Dorothy Bails and numerous nieces,nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of almost 70 years, Albert Jasper Cox, whom she married on December 20,1947; her parents, Nodie Bails Cox and Andrew Bails ;a daughter, Lola Mae Story; grandchildren, Terrance “Bay Man” Alexander, Tyrone Alexander, Lori Lee Story, Tony Alexander and Lavioletta (Jackson) Berry; sister, Elone Lowery; brothers, Henry Bails and twin brothers, Leroy and Gilroy Bails, Sr.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 21, 2022 from Noon-6pm at Foster & Son Funeral Home of Ripley, MS, with the family present from 4pm-6pm. Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Ripley, MS. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Boyd Cemetery in Ripley, MS.
