Sister Edna M. (Starks) Batie was born on March 2, 1951 to the late Jodie and Florene (Triplett) Starks.  The Lord called her home on April 30, 2021.  At the age of sixteen she married the love of her life, Charles (Chuck) Edward Batie, and moved to Toledo, Ohio.  She was raised in the church all of her life.  When she would return home on vacation she would visit Flatwood Grove Church of the Living God under the leadership of the late Bishop Hardy L. Coleman, Sr.  She had a special love for Flatwood Grove because that was the church where she received the Gift of the Holy Ghost.  In Toledo she found another church home: New Covenant Church of the Living God at 2519 Stickney Ave., Toledo, OH.  Her pastor and Bishop was Bishop James R. Sherman.  She later served under Pastor Eric Sherman and Pastor James D. Sherman.  She remained a faithful member until her health began to fail.

Sister Batie loved her husband and family as well as her church family.  She worked for over 30 years at Brook Haven until she retired.  She will be greatly missed.

Edna Mae and Charles were married for 52 years and to this union 4 children were born.  She Leaves to cherish her memories her four children: Charles F. Batie, Desiree Batie, Daryl Batie (Chelle),  and Cheryl Batie all of Toledo, OH .  She also leaves 8 grandchildren: Sharneita Carter, Quinesha Carter, Shawn Phelps, Alacia Batie, Jarvon Bowen, Aniyah Batie, Tyrel Bowen and Jayvion Batie; 3 great grandchildren: RaSean Thornton, Harmony Carter and Everion Petterson; 5 Sisters: Joan Alexander, Bobbie R. Rutherford, Evon Cox Graham all of Ripley, MS, Betty Hatch of Blue Mountain, MS and Mary Holland of Detroit, MI; 2 brothers: Troy R. Starks (Bessie) of Ripley, MS and Wylie C. Starks (Freedia) also of Ripley, MS.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years: Charles Batie; her parents: Jodie and Florene Starks;  3 sisters: Glenda Sue Dye, Martha Grace Starks, Martha Jean Starks Alexander; 1 sister-in law: Carolyn Ruth Chills Starks; 2 brothers-in-law: Broddie (Pete) Alexander and John Dye.  We also would like to recognize her other brothers-in-law: Edger Broddie Alexander (Aretha) of Blue Mountain, MS, William B. Hatch (Gloria), Harvey Rutherford (Debbie) all of Ripley, MS and Jerry L. Graham of Tupelo, MS and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Edna thought she was a mother before she actually became a mother looking after her 1st cousin, Jewell Inetha Triplett whom she loved dearly.

Visitation Friday, May, 21, 2021 from 12pm to 5pm at Foster & Son Funeral Home, Ripley, MS. Funeral Service will be Saturday, May 22, 2021 , 11 am, at Flatwood Grove Church in Blue Mountain, MS. Burial will follow at Flatwood Grove Church Cemetery. The body will lie in state for one hour prior to service at Flatwood Grove Church.
