Dorothy S Simelton

Dorothy S. Simelton, 90, was born on March, 16, 1929 to the late Dave and Maude Hill Smith. Mrs. Simelton transitioned to be with the Lord on May 16, 2019 at her home in Blue Mountain, MS.

Mrs. Simelton was a very respected and educated individual. She attended Line Street School. Later, she received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Rust College and a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Mississippi. Also, she attended Foster’s Cosmetology. Mrs. Simelton was an educator for 42 years.

She was a dedicated member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. She served in numerous leadership positions including Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Secretary, Mission President, Kitchen Chair Person, Choir Mentor, and Church Clerk. She was a member of the Heroines of Jericho Court #5 and Order of Eastern Star.

She married the late Mr. Charlie M. Simelton on November 7, 1950.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Theresa S. Johnson of Ripley, MS and Pamela A. Simelton of Blue Mountain, MS; two grandchildren, Brian K. Johnson and Kinya E. Johnson; one great grandchild, Keyon A. Johnson; one sister, Bernice Colyer; in-laws: Elaine Simelton of Tiplersville, MS, Bernice Simelton of Indiana, and Annie Smith of Ripley, MS; and special god-children: Lisa M. Rucker, Olivia Edgeston, Margarita (Rodney) Jackson, Ashley (Brian) Hightower, Algie (Rosalind) Brown, and Linda Howell; and extended family: Jerry and Reanie Bean Family, Willie and Thatan Blake, Niece Edgeston; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She is preceded in death by: husband, Charlie M. Simelton; parents, Dave and Maude Hill Smith; siblings: Fannie Smith, Minnie (A.D.) Riddle, Alice (Jodie) McAlister, Virgie (Troy) Simelton, Hill Thomas (Kathy) Smith, Henry Smith, and Mildred (Henry) Adkins; in-laws: Clyde Simelton, Lillie (Perry) Story, Jenny Mae (Cleve) Story, Pearl (Ellis) Agnew, Virginia Smith, and Amelia Smith.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 24, 2019 from 12:00 noon- 8:00 pm at Foster and Son Funeral Home in Ripley, MS, with the family present from 6:00 pm- 8:00 pm. Service will be held Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Antioch MBC in Blue Mountain, MS. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service.
