Sister Ethel J. Prather was born on December 18, 1931 in Tippah County, Falkner, Mississippi. She was the fifth child born to Clifford and Frances Johnson.
On Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 11:42 a.m., she passed away at Ross Memorial Healthcare Center, Kennesaw, Georgia.
She accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she remained a member. She served as a deaconess, prayer band leader, and usher while in attendance.
She married Roy D Prather in 1950, who proceeded her in death. To this union seven children were born.
She lived in Tippah County for 80 years and the remaining 6 years in Georgia with her children. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was employed with Ripley Shoe Plant and Tippah County Hospital for a number of years. She was loved by all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Jolene Cummings (Kennesaw, GA); six sons, Dennis(Helen) Prather(Acworth, GA); Eddie(Priscilla) Prather(Tupelo, MS); Travis(Teresa) Prather(Charlotte, NC); Jarvis(Charlene) Prather(Acworth, GA); Rev. Roy(Debra) Prather, Jr.(Acworth, GA); Stan Prather(Santa Cruz, CA). One sister, Mrs. Louise Simmons(Milwaukee, WI). Sixteen grandchildren, Twenty-three great-grandchildren (one deceased) and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 25, 2018 from 12 noon – 7 pm at Foster and Son Funeral Home in Ripley, MS, with the family present from 5 pm- 7 pm. Service will be held Sunday, February 26, 2018 at 1 pm at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Falkner, MS. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Ruckersville Cemetery in Falkner, MS. Services entrusted to Foster and Son Funeral Home of Ripley, MS.
